Sustainable Resource Solutions appoint John Holt as Non-Executive Chairman

John Holt, director and shareholder in Avondale Ltd one of the strongest performing independently owned businesses in the waste sector has been appointed by Sustainable Resource Solutions Ltd as a Non-Executive Chairman. The previous Non-Executive Chairman Alan Aubrey will become a Non-Executive Director.

John, a chartered town planner and a member of the Institute of Economic Development, has previously held appointments with Peel Investments, where he was Managing Director, and Birse PLC, Board Director, where he also had an interest in Avondale Ltd. John has also performed various non executive director roles in the NHS, construction and housing businesses.

On joining Sustainable Resource Solutions John said he "was attracted by the synergy between my own experience and the fields in which the directors of Sustainable Resource Solutions] were working. Waste will be a major consideration in the thinking of both industrialists and politicians for the foreseeable future. Sustainable Resource Solutions has adopted a radical new and all encompassing approach to the reuse of materials currently classified as waste. The combination of waste and resource management technology development coupled with the delivery of these innovative processes with key industrial partners suggests a very healthy future for this rapidly growing company."

SRS's Technical Director Richard Howarth presented at the recent Yorkshire Contaminated Land Forum event held at the Environment Agency's offices in Leeds.

Dredged Sediment Recovery

Sustainable Resource Solutions have continued their close working relationship with British Waterways and Yorkshire Water over the last few months with two projects that have recovered dredged sediments from the inland waterways network. These projects have seen over 12,000 tonnes of dredged sediments be recovered from British Waterways dredging works at Yorkshire Water facilities. This has allowed British Waterways to divert this material from landfill and contributed to significant carbon savings.

Envirolink Northwest International Collaborative Research Network – Environmental Technology

Sustainable Resource Solutions Ltd have been invited as a founder member of the Envirolink Northwest International Collaborative Research Network. The Network is focussed on identifying and developing opportunities for collaboration across international boundaries in the environmental technology sector with a view to implementing best practice and providing a forum for the development of new market focussed solutions to existing problems. Founding members include major industrial companies, major UK and international research institutions and technology/ solution providers.

Science City Hydrogen Energy Seminar, University of Warwick

Karl Hylands today presented on the opportunities to move innovative technology research through to commercialisation at the Science City Hydrogen Energy Seminar jointly organised by the University of Birmingham and University of Warwick. The free one day seminar attended by academics, government agents and industry comprised a series of presentations from leading academic and industry figures in the field, looking at the technical challenges associated with the development and application of hydrogen energy technologies. Sustainable Resource Solutions contribution provided insight into how research can be commercialised and brought into the marketplace and how the barriers to commercialisation can be successfully overcome through developing research with commercial outcomes in mind from the outset. The event was well received with a lot of interest expressed in Sustainable Resource Solution’s commercialisation services.
